Known by his stage name Dwele, he is a Detroit-based singer and songwriter of soul music who is best known for appearing on tracks with Slum Village and Kanye West.
He self-recorded his debut album The Rize in his bedroom, which eventually caught the attention of Slum Village producer J Dilla.
He learned to play multiple instruments while growing up, including trumpet, bass, and guitar.
He has said that the fatal shooting of his father inspired him to get serious about music at age ten.
He appeared on the Kanye West song "Power," the first single from the My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album.
