German baroque sculptor and architect associated with the Petrine Baroque style. He created the Golden ceremonial sarcophagus of Queen Sophie Charlotte.
He spent several years abroad as a journeyman, working on various projects.
His fame allowed him to work for Tsar Peter the Great in Saint Petersburg.
He was born and raised in Hamburg.
He studied the work of Michelangelo Buonarroti.
