Andre Ware

Became the first black quarterback to win the Heisman Trophy in 1989, while leading the University of Houston; made his NFL debut in 1990 for the Detroit Lions and had a lengthy Canadian Football League career.
He was a standout football player at Dickinson High School in Texas, then went on to set a number of school records at the University of Houston.
After his playing days were finished, he began broadcasting for the Houston Texans.
He was born and raised in Galveston, Texas.
In Detroit he teamed up with Barry Sanders, who won the Heisman in 1988.
