Andre Norton
Novelist
The first female Gandalf Grand Master of Fantasy, she wrote such popular fantasy, science fiction, and adventure novels as Quag Keep and Three Hands for Scorpio. Her 1964 work, Witch World, was nominated for the Hugo Award.
She briefly attended Western Reserve University in Ohio before becoming a librarian. She published her first novel, The Prince Commands, in 1934.
She owned a Maryland bookstore called Mystery House.
She was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Adalbert and Bertha Norton. She never married.
She was influenced by C.S. Lewis.
