Alina Somova
Dancer
Principal dancer in the prestigious Mariinsky Ballet since 2008. She achieved that role just five short years after joining the company at the age of 17.
She graduated from the Vaganova Academy in 2003.
During her first year with the Mariinsky company, she was awarded the part of Odette/Odile in Swan Lake, a very prestigious honor for such a young and inexperienced dancer.
Her mother put her in accelerated math classes when she was a child, but while she excelled, she ultimately chose to pursue ballet.
She's danced several ballets under the choreography of George Balanchine.
