Alice Notley
Poet
Arizona-born poet whose works include Margaret & Dusty: Poems, Mysteries of Small Houses, and Grave of Light. For her 2001 collection, Disobedience, she received the International Griffin Poetry Prize.
She graduated from Barnard College and subsequently received her M.F.A. from the famed Iowa Writers' Workshop.
A Pulitzer Prize nominee, she was the recipient of a Los Angeles Times Book Prize.
She married fellow poet Ted Berrigan while both were living in Chicago. After Berrigan's death, Notley raised her two children in New York City.
Susan Howe is another prominent female poet.
