Alexander Kelly
War Hero
American Civil War hero who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his service in the Battle of Chaffin's Farm.
He worked as a coal miner in Pennsylvania before enlisting in the U.S. Army and fighting on the Union side during the Civil War.
He returned home to Western Pennsylvania after the Civil War and worked for a time as a night guard for the Pittsburgh Police stables.
He raised a biological son and many adopted children with his wife, Victoria.
He and James Doolittle were both recipients of the U.S. military's most prestigious award, the Medal of Honor.
