Renowned Croatian striker who became known for his graceful shots over opposing goalkeepers. He was named Croatian Footballer of the Year in 1993 and spent his club career with seven different teams, most notably Juventus, Marseille and Middlesbrough.
He began his career with Yugoslavia's Hajduk Split in 1987.
He became the highest-paid player in the English leagues after winning the Italian league title and the 1998-99 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.
He had three children with his first wife and one more with his girlfriend four years later.
He and Darijo Srna both became well-known Croatian soccer players.
