Aleksandar Srnec

Abstract artist who became known for his kinetic sculptures, lumino kinetic art, and avant-garde designs. He helped found Exat 51.
He studied briefly at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. His first kinetic object was "Space Modulator" from 1953.
He received the Vladimir Nazor Award for lifetime artistic achievement in 1999.
He was born in Zagreb when the city was still considered part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.
He and fellow abstract artist Josef Albers both incorporated geometric shapes into their work.
