Canadian playwright and poet who wrote Frankenstein: The Man Who Became God and A Gift to Last. He won the Governor General's Award in 1967.
His family discouraged education, so he only finished four grades as a result.
He was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1966.
His mother had him when she was just 15, and she skipped out on the family.
He, along with US President Charles Fairbanks, were recipients of the Guggenheim Fellowship.
