Known best for founding a renowned Venezuelan choir called Schola Cantorum de Caracas, this Spanish-born conductor also had a career as a composer, writing such award-winning choral pieces as Triptych, Dies Irae, and Pater Noster.
He received his early musical training at the Jose Angel Lamas National Conservatory of Music and the Juan Manuel Olivares School of Music.
He was a three-time recipient of the Venezuelan National Music Prize.
He was born in Catalonia, Spain and raised primarily in Caracas, Venezuela.
He and Gustavo Dudamel are both Venezuelan classical composers.
