World War I fighter pilot and the United Kingdom's top flying ace at the time of his death.
He jumped at the chance to join the Sherwood Foresters at the beginning of World War I and earned the rank of second lieutenant in October of 1914.
He received the Victoria Cross in 1917 for his wartime service.
He became engaged to Dot Allbourne in 1915, but his interest in other women (most notably, Thelma Starr) derailed his wedding plans.
He was a wartime foe of the their Baron von Richthofen (a.k.a. The Red Baron).
