Early twentieth-century pianist who specialized in boogie-woogie music. He recorded several albums under the Blue Note and Mercury labels.
He performed with Benny Goodman and Harry James.
He appeared as himself in the 1944 film Boogie-Woogie Dream.
He was born into a family of pianists and had no difficulty mastering the instrument by the age of ten.
He played at President Harry S. Truman's inauguration in 1949.
