Former drummer with the electronic band Depeche Mode who created the project Recoil, a trip-hop electronica outfit.
He attended St. Clement Danes Grammar School. His first band was Cloaca, which supported acts including Gary Numan.
He was asked to join The Cure by singer Robert Smith.
He grew up in London and married his second wife, Theresa, in 1992.
He and Dave Gahan were bandmates in Depeche Mode.
