Former Prime Minister of Rwanda was assassinated at the beginning of the Rwandan Genocide. She and her husband sacrificed themselves to save their children.
She taught chemistry at the National University of Rwanda before starting her political career.
She made history by becoming Rwanda's first female Prime Minister in 1993.
She was born to Hutu farmers in the small village of Nyaruhengeri.
She served as Prime Minister under President Juvenal Habyarimana.
