Adrian Piper
Philosopher
Conceptual artist, philosopher, and Guggenheim Fellowship recipient. The first female African-American philosophy professor in the United States to be granted academic tenure.
She studied philosophy and musicology at the City College of New York and went on to receive a Ph.D. in philosophy from Harvard University.
She moved to Berlin, Germany, in 2005 and became the editor of The Berlin Journal of Philosophy.
She grew up in New York City and had exhibited her artwork internationally by the time she was twenty years old.
She was taught by John Rawls at Harvard University.
