Most their for portraying Josh MacIntosh and Peter McGregor on the respective Canadian television shows Being Erica and Wild Roses, he is also notable for his role as Nick McAllister on YTV's Vampire High.
Early in his acting career, he appeared in episodes of Big Wolf on Campus and The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo.
He directed a short television movie titled Sombre Zombie.
He and his brother were raised in a suburb of Montreal, Quebec. His cousin and fellow actor, Jeff Roop, was also in the cast of Vampire High.
Playing the recurring-turned-series-regular role of Detective Steve Peck, MacDonald appeared with Gregory Smith and Missy Peregrym on the Canadian police drama Rookie Blue.
