Abraham Regelson
Poet
Hebrew author who was awarded the prestigious Brenner Prize, The Bialik Prize for Literature, and The Neuman Prize. He was also a columnist for the Al Ha-Mishmar newspaper and an editor for the Am Oved publishing company.
He immigrated to The United States at age nine and spent much of his childhood on the Lower East Side of New York.
He was largely self-taught and never finished his formal education.
He was the son of Yehuda Zeev Regelson and Rashel Ozick. With his wife, singer Chaya Rosen, he had several children.
He translated Nathaniel Hawthorne's classic novel, The Scarlet Letter, into Hebrew.
