Aaron T. Beck

Psychiatrist and professor emeritus in the University of Pennsylvania's Department of Psychiatry. He also became the father of cognitive therapy.
He began developing his theories about cognitive therapy while serving as a psychiatrist at the University of Pennsylvania in the first part of the 1960s.
His contributions to psychiatry were expansive, including the development of self-report measures for depression and anxiety, namely the Beck Depression Inventory, the Beck Hopelessness Scale, and the Beck Anxiety Inventory.
He fathered Judith S. Beck, who also became an expert in cognitive therapy and served as President of the Beck Institute.
He was awarded the Sigmund Freud Award in 2010.
